Postcard Project Update - Thursday, April 07, 2005

Mom got the lighthouse postcards today with her name on them. When I went downstairs, dad had them in his pile of mail to go through and showed me - mom liked them and wanted him to see them as soon as he got home. One day recently she got a note on a piece of paper that had a calendar on the side. And she got one or two that were written in purple ink. I don't think she's ever going to get that there's an "item of the month". Though she might start wondering why she isn't getting any more word searches. Today I saw she's already started making a new quilt with remnants of the only quilt she ever made with her mom. Don't mention that part, I think she'll get sad. But keep referring to the purple quilt - that should cheer her up! She loves purple.
Mom is back to working, part time, in the office of the agency she works for. She started back on Thursday, March 31, doing about 4 hours a day. Her ankle still isn't as good as it should be, even after physical therapy, so she's having an MRI done tomorrow morning.
I'll be sending Will the scans my dad took. Still haven't found time to look at my digital camera...

Postcard Project Update - Monday, April 04, 2005

I'm alive. Thank you all for your well-wishes. I encountered some minor, unexpected umbilicus surgery on Tuesday which made me suffer through some of the worst pain in my life Tuesday night and Wednesday. Which made the surgeon prescribe me Vicodin. Which made me projectile vomit at work, on the way home, and once I got home, in mom's bathroom. Which is when she read the really funny missing bathrobe letter to me, which helped distract me from the horror which is Vicodin. What a wonderful way to start a vacation!
So, while I was gone mom got a few pieces of mail. One was a typed letter from someone like a 'Bobby Jones'; one was another wordsearch, I think. Today - ahhh! She got a lot of fabic from...Betty Ann, I think? Great pieces! She said to me "I never said I was going to make a purple quilt!" and I said "Well, seems someone thinks you should!" When I went downstairs later, she was laying the pieces out on the cutting mat to see what sizes they were. She got another letter today that made me laugh, but I don't remember much about it. My Motrin-induced stupor allows me to recall only so much about my day.
I did, however, raid her "stash" of cards and letters. I took quite a few pictures, and once I figure out my new digital camera, will upload them. Dad is still working on scanning, I guess. At least a couple of my pictures should come out well.
Anyway...thank you for your patience in my return.
P.S. When I yelled out to Tom about Dirty Dancing, it was to say it's one of moms favorite movies, not mine. Ooh! That's what the other note was about today, about "Swayze Sundays" and Dirty Dancing...that was a good one!
