Postcard Project Update - Saturday, June 05, 2004
Holy Moly - we had over 91,000 hits last month. With the front page article, interviews on over 50 radio stations and several other media deals, plus the auction, I guess we had a good month. Betty is going to freak out when all this mail starts pouring in. I can't wait.
We had a majority of our hits come from eBay, my blog, and (weird) the Game Show Network. someone there musta liked it, huh?
BTW, did you know (of course you didn't, I'm just now telling you) that my Mom got a postcard in the mail right after the front page article that said Will and Kevin are behind it. Go to www.PostcardsForMom.com and see for yourself. I hope no one pulls that childish crap this time.
Postcard Project Update - Friday, June 04, 2004
I will be getting the P.O. box tomorrow. Hooray!
I am going to put a copy of the Barenaked Ladies CD that has the Chimpanzee song in it inside. I will send the address to Will via e-mail -- I'm sure he'll get to to you all quickly. Hopefully there will be mail waiting for Mom as soon as she gets the key from Will in the mail.
Will is going to be vague in his note to Mom, but I have asked him to let her know the key is from someone she knows who likes her and arranged to have the key sent to her anonymously. I'd hate for her to freak out.
Coincidences that tell me this was meant to be:
(1) The charity the $ went to is in the county our family lived in when Mom was in college at George Mason University and my sister, Amy and I were in elementary and middle school.
(2) Mom has relatives who live near Will, which should make for a good red herring on the origin of the prank.
(3) I found this website because I was looking for Chimpanzee postcards and trying to think of a way to prank a friend by mailing lots and lots of them from around the world.
Answers to your questions:Mom likes what she calls "teacher clothes". Easter sweaters with bunnies on them, Halloween sweaters with pumpkins on them, dresses with fish on them to go boating,THEMED SOCKS. She's a real sucker for themed socks.
Mom's glasses have rose-colored LENSES! She literally looks at the world through rose-colored glasses. Except when she's got her shades on:)
Chaz is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Sunny is a Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Mom's cat, Princess, died a few weeks ago and she misses her very much. She was a dilute calico.
Mom has two kids, me and my younger sister, Amy. Mom's grandmother, who she calls Aunt Ruby is in her late nineties and lives in Arkansas. Mom's Mom is also alive and was orignially from Missouri.
Even though Mom's got a Psych degree, don't mess with her TOO much -- she's going to be shocked enough by the whole thing as it is, I'm sure. My sister thinks she's going to freak out and I'll have to pull the plug. I think Mom is tougher than that.
Things you can ask Mom:
Ask her how Carl is doing. My father's brother Carl lived with Mom and Dad for several months after having heart surgery about three years ago.
Ask her if she's got any cicadas yet.
Ask her when she's planning another trip to Arkansas.
Ask her how her dog Sunny is feeling, Sunny has a collapsing trachea that can't be fixed. Poor pup.
Ask her if she's done any art projects with (her nephew) Ben lately.
Ask her which Redskins games she's going to this year.
While we wait, and with Father's Day around the corner, how about we pull off a quick publicity stunt. Might work, might not.
This will be David Letterman's first Father's Day as a father. His son, Harry, was born earlier this year (or late last year?). If you have an extra Father's Day card, send it to Dave, and mention the website (postcardsformom.com).

Postcard Project Update - Wednesday, June 02, 2004
I've added Wendy to the list of members that can add posts to this section of the site. She had never used Blogger before, but I have confidence she'll figure it out. Hopefully we can get a post or two out of her this week :)
Postcard Project Update - Tuesday, June 01, 2004
Mom's name is Betty Anne.
Mom's birthday is in December, so no birthday parties this time. Maybe we can celebrate it in July, akin to a "Christmas in July" thing.
Mom has two dogs - Chaz and Sunny.
Mom collects teapots.
Mom has a degree in Psychology.
Mom is a big fan of seasonal holiday clothing.
Mom likes African Violets.
Mom was once responsible for a rampaging neighborhood pink flamingo prank. (So maybe this is karma biting her back.)
Mom wears rose-colored glasses. Literally. So please, be kind.
The Postcard Project appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald over the weekend. Welcome, Aussies!
Postcard Project Update - Monday, May 31, 2004
Wendy (our winner) said her Mom lives many miles away, and she would not be able to get her a PO Box until next weekend. If anything changes (or I'm wrong, because my glass eye won't focus), I'll let you know. Until then, we wait :(
