Postcard Project Update - Friday, September 10, 2004
Betty Anne here. I have spent the past week trying to create my own blog account. Although I now have an account, I cannot seem to make the messages I create get to this website. They have been showing up on the blogger website instead, so I am trying Wendy's blog again.
The tally is close to 400 postcards and letter, birthday cards and christmas cards, one notice that I missed an orthodontic appointment, 63 keys (don't gloat Celeste, you had this 'service' for several months longer than I did), 368 buttons, one pair of socks with an alligator singing karoke on them, 2 beer coasters, two baskets of food from Hickory Farms, an angel pin, a whole lot of family pictures - (although after reading some of the archives, whose family is anybody's guess), some random pictures of city lights in an unamed city, wedding pictures (congratulations - my husband and I were married in 1970 which was a 17 year cicada year too - this was our '3rd' anniversary) - pictures of people's dogs and cats, christening pictures, and a picture of someone's 'Country Cousins Reunion' which looks suspiciously like a picture my mom has of her 'Country Cousins Reunion'. My Mom and Dad migrated to the Washington DC area from Missouri after WWII. We are from down in 'the bootheel' and go home to visit regularly. So maybe it is the exact same cousins. Wouldn't that be a hoot. I know I am forgetting something here, but I will write again soon. I don't have any good ideas about how to select the MOM, but having someone close by to keep the group posted and giggling is a good idea. Ask for interested parties to contact you and see how many replies you get. Maybe only one person is interested. I do have some ideas about things to send. The keys were the best, because of the stories that came with them, and the bottons were great too. Some other ideas are: flower seeds 'for your garden' - no name is fun so they have to plant them to see what they are popsicle sticks with a 'knock knock' joke written on it a 3x5 inch square of fabric, with the color or pattern (solid, plaid, print) to be determined by Will 16.5 inches of yarn - for that sweater you are knitting a piece of tin foil One of my favorite postcards was of the water tower that looks like a Catsup bottle that was being renovated. Maybe a theme for the postcards would be fun, like funny local landmarks. Or we could take pictures of water towers and print them on stiff paper and use them as postcards. Or pictures of roadside historical markers. etc. One of the funniest things was when everyone changed from keys to buttons at the same time. You could change the item more often and it would even funnier. Anyway, I'll write again as soon as I get this blog thing figured out. Betty Anne |
